Guardia Civil traffic patrol cars are being fitted with new licence-plate recognition technology that will enable officers to identify car insurance evaders instantly. The kit scans a suspect's licence plate and sends the information directly to a national database developed by the Insurance Compensation Consortium to ascertain whether the vehicle is insured and whether payments are up to date.
